A couple weeks ago, I appeared on Youngstown's WFMJ Midday news with anchor Jennifer Brindisi. Immediately afterword, I was called by the Vindicator, who wanted to put together a feature story on the book. The article ran today. Here's a scan of the hard copy, and I've also included the full article from the online version as well. Here's the link: http://bit.ly/2kIh3tq

IT'S ALMOST TIME!!

1970s, 70s Music, Cassidy Concerts, David Cassidy, Partridge FamilyJohn MillerComment

Hi everyone!!

The 64-page color photo section is done and will be going to the print sometime next week! (The photo section goes to print separately from the text section, which will be ready in a few more weeks!)

In the meantime, I have sent out a survey form to all of my individual backers. This feature is only offered as a one-time feature through Kickstarter. It allows me to get your shipping address and your name, as  you would like it to appear in print and on the website. I have saved the survey until now, knowing I can only do it once, because I wanted to send it out as close to the print date as possible. You should be getting it about the same time you receive this update!

Once the text section is sent to print I can announce an exact release date, which will be approximately five weeks following the printing process because the book is being printed in the U.S.A., (as opposed to 4 months delivery time if it were printed in China or anywhere overseas).

I know it has been a long wait for all of you, but I hope the added work on the book will prove worth the wait! I appreciate each and every one of you and all the support you have given me through this past year. Not just for the backing, but for all the kind emails and words of enthusiasm that you have sent as well!

More big news coming soon! Time to get back on the bus! :)

Today I spoke with Henry Diltz.

He said in no uncertain terms he wants to see this campaign WIN!

In an extraordinary gesture, Henry  has offered three more photos for the final week of the campaign, to be offered in the coming days, beginning today!  But here's the most unbelievable part:

Mr. Diltz has  graciously offered a select number of additional SIGNED 11 X 14's!

I have to tell you my friends, after seeing these photos myself, they are far more gorgeous and extraordinary in print, and Henry's personal signature is INCREDIBLY striking in a way that I have never seen before.

Diltz is world-renowned as the foremost  photographer of the music industry during the late '60s, early '70s and beyond. He has photographed Paul McCartney, Cass Elliot, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Jimi Hendrix, The Rolling Stones, The Monkees and that's just the beginning! You will never see another offer like this.

This photograph of David Cassidy captures David in his most quintessential look of the decade. It is the face of an icon. It makes us smile. It's the essence of the young and hopeful David Cassidy whose voice has kept an entire generation following him.

For new backers, pledge $35 and you will receive an 8 X 10 high resolution print, or in Henry's  EXTREMELY rare offer, you can choose a signed 11 X 14 for only $225!  If you are a current backer, you can add the 8 X 10 to your pledge for only $30, and the signed 11 X 14 for only $195!! But hurry--

'The Wrecking Crew' Filmmaker Denny Tedesco is a Backer!

1970s, 70s Music, Announcements, Cassidy Concerts, David Cassidy, Kickstarter, Partridge Family Music, Partridge Family TV Show, pop bands, Wrecking Crew, MusiciansJohn MillerComment

The campaign to publish "When We're Singin'" has now earned the backing of Denny Tedesco, filmmaker of the award-winning documentary, "The Wrecking Crew."

The critically acclaimed "The Wrecking Crew," tells the story of the session musicians who worked around the clock playing on thousands of records during the '60s and '70s. These players were the best of the best, and they were intrinsic to the creation of a sound for such acts as The Mamas and The Papas, Sonny & Cher, the Carpenters, and yes--The Partridge Family!

In fact, Denny Tedesco's father, Tommy Tedesco, was one of the lead guitar players for The Partridge Family, and Denny provides commentary in "When We're Singin'" about his young memories of the Partridge Family music!

Denny's "The Wrecking Crew" was finally  given distribution after a successful  campaign on Kickstarter in 2013 that garnered Denny the final funding needed to pay off expensive music licensing fees.

Denny has been a friend to "When We're Singin'" since the beginning of the project's development. He was the guy who connected me to the session players--the great Hal Blaine, Max Bennett, Louie Sheldon, and Joe Osborn to name only a few.

With Denny on board the Partridge Family bus, it's time for you to join us in making "When We're Singin'" a published reality! C'mon Partridge Family fans! Board the bus NOW! There's only 12 days left!

It started in March of 1971 when David Cassidy performed his first concert in Seattle, Washington. By spring of 1972, he was posing nude for Rolling Stone in an attempt to break his squeaky clean image. He became the highest paid performer on the planet and he toured the world through spring of  1974. In his final concert tour, a young fan tragically died at his White City Stadium concert in the U.K. which took its toll on David.

The Music + The Image = Global Phenomenon

David Cassidy, Kickstarter, 70s Music, Cassidy Concerts, Partridge Family MusicJohn Miller1 Comment

When We're Singin' explores the effort behind matching the image of the Television show to the sound of the music.

While the producers and creators of the TV show were crafting the look and feel of the show, the music was being done at Western Recorders, Studio 2, and Wes Farrell was in charge. Farrell was highly driven, and it was his responsibility to come up with credible pop music, but it had to match the desired image of the show.

He pulled the best musicians, singers and songwriters of the day into the project, and as a result the music was truly rooted in an adult contemporary, or easy listening sound.  With the music as believable as the strength of its image created through the magic of television, (thanks to some really terrific actors and directors) the marketing of this product took off on an international roller coaster ride that proved to be bigger than any TV/Music marketing package ever created up to that point.
